Habitat |
Mice are more commonly found in buildings than rats. They can fit through holes as small as 1/4 of an inch—about the width of a pencil. Mice make their nests in various areas in and around structures, especially in stacked firewood, stones, bricks, and piles of leaves or other debris. They establish a "territory" near food sources, usually 10 to 30 feet from their nest. |
Diet |
They are omnivorous but prefer cereal grains.

Control |
The best way to avoid rodent invasions is to eliminate harborage and seal holes and cracks on the exterior of your building through which mice might enter. Remove piles of debris, stones, bricks, and similar materials. Do not allow leaves to accumulate near the foundation, as this provides attractive shelter for mice. Seal any hole or crack larger than 1/4 of an inch. Install weatherstripping on the bottom of all doors to prevent rodents from entering. |
