Appearance
earwigEarwigs are dark brown, about 1 inch long, with forceps-like pincers extending from their backside.
Habitat
Earwigs live outdoors in tree holes, under piles of lawn debris and mulch, and beneath objects lying on the ground. They also inhabit exterior cracks in buildings, from which they may wander inside. While they may look dangerous, earwigs can’t harm humans.
Diet
Earwigs are omnivores and feed at night on leaves, flowers, fruit, mold, and other insects.
Control
The key to controlling earwigs is to find and treat the places where they live. This may involve removing debris, mulch, and other objects from areas surrounding your building. A thorough inspection and treatment of cracks in your building’s exterior can also aid in control.
